Translating dates in SDL Trados Studio

Studio usually does a good job localising source language dates in the correct target format. But sometimes the source text uses an incorrect date format or language variants cause problems. Here’s a quick look at how date auto-substitution should work out of the box, and how to tweak it if it doesn’t.

From “In review 0%” to “In translation” or “Translated 100%”

Here is a problem reported by David Perry and solved by Jerzy Czopik.

1. When does Studio decide to go from “100% translated” to “In review 0%”? Some files do this automatically when I reach the magic 100% mark, others don’t. 

2. How can I go back to “In translation”? My package has  two files that refuse to go back to the “In translation” status, even though I can make changes in them. I have tried editing segments and changing the segment status globally, but the status does not change from “In review”.

Review of Studio 2014 - translate faster and safer

The new version of Trados Studio was published last week on the SDL website. I was able to test Studio 2014 during a 4-month-long beta-test phase in which a lot of remarks from translators and project managers were taken in consideration.
Here is my personal review of the 2 main improvements that impressed me much in this new version.

Review of Studio SP1

The first service pack of Studio 2014 has now been published and with it the brand new alignment editor. SDL developed a new alignment interface to replace the old WinAlign which couldn't cope neither with new formats from Microsoft, Adobe… nor with the "new" bilingual standard .sdlxliff. The first step was already done without editor but many feedbacks have come to describe specific use cases where the alignment tool was not appropriate, for example when source document contains texts which are missing in the target document because of a difference in the document version.

I’ve been using SDL Trados Studio for a while now and so far, I really liked it. The release candidate still has plenty of bugs, but overall it’s very usable. How to get rid of a tag soup in Trados Studio

If you read CAT tool forums at ProZ, Translators Café, Yahoo Groups and elsewhere, you will have noticed that questions about rogue or junk tags come up most weeks. Of course, if you’ve just opened a file in Studio and are faced with a plague of tags in each segment – even interspersed between characters – you may not have the patience to take a deep breath and search for the answer. A new desperate plea for help is sent out.
